We use 100% pure, extra virgin coconut oil because it contains a high amount of lauric acid. Lauric acid is a fatty acid that has a small molecular structure, which allows it to pass through the hair cuticle and penetrate into the cortex of the hair, helping to moisturize and strengthen the strands. Other oils have large molecular structures and cannot easily pass through the hair cuticle. Instead, these oils may coat the strands, causing a heavy, greasy feeling on the hair.
